Harry not happy with sloppy Spurs
Harry Redknapp slammed Tottenham's defending as they ended a successful season by letting a two-goal lead turn into defeat at Burnley.[LNB] Four days after securing their Champions League spot with victory over Manchester City, Spurs looked set for another three points when Gareth Bale and Luka Modric netted in the first half.[LNB]But Wade Elliott pulled one back just before the break and second-half goals from Jack Cork, Martin Paterson and Steven Thompson gave the relegated Clarets a surprise 4-2 win.[LNB]Redknapp said: "I'm bitterly disappointed. At 2-0 it wasn't even a game and you couldn't see any way we wouldn't go on and win the game comfortably. The crowd were getting edgy with them and it looked almost too easy.[LNB]"But they got a goal back and in the second half they came out and they were excellent. They ran all over us at times, I thought they played fantastic, and we really were a shadow of ourselves. I've no excuses. A lot of the defending was poor."[LNB]Redknapp made only one change from the team that beat City on Wednesday, Ben Alnwick replacing the injured Heurelho Gomes in goal, and the Spurs boss admitted that may have backfired.[LNB]"We've had a great season, I've been delighted with the performances during the year, but you always want to win," he continued. "I didn't come here just to have a jolly up. Maybe I should have made a few changes, one or two did look like they were running on empty a bit."[LNB]It looked like Spurs would have another victory to celebrate when they took the lead inside three minutes, Aaron Lennon teeing up Bale for his third goal in six games.[LNB]Bale, who signed a new four-year contract this week, then played in Modric for a smart second but Burnley gave notice of what was to come by pulling one back before half-time through Elliott.[LNB]Lennon hit a post in the opening minute of the second half but from then on it was all Burnley. Cork headed in the equaliser - a first goal in Claret for the on-loan Chelsea youngster - before Paterson put the hosts ahead in the 71st minute.[LNB]Steven Caldwell headed against his own bar as Spurs sought an equaliser but it was Burnley who had the final say, substitute Thompson deflecting in Elliott's effort two minutes from time.[LNB]Burnley boss Brian Laws paid tribute to his players but admitted he feared the worst when Tottenham took the lead so early.[LNB]He said: "It's a very nice feeling. We started very, very slowly and I was very disappointed (with the first goal) because it was a nothing ball over the top, Brian Jensen was way out of position and should have been sweeping that up.[LNB]"You think, 'what have we got here'? The second goal was sheer quality but we regrouped and in the last 10-15 minutes of the first half we started to probe and pass the ball well and that was what I said at half-time, we had to pass the ball a bit quicker.[LNB]"When we move the ball we can open up and we did that in the second half. It was great credit to the players. They could have switched off but they didn't and they've given everybody a lift."
