Happy Birthday Stan

16 June 2011 00:05
We'd like to send our best wishes to former Burnley manager Stan Ternent who is celebrating his 65th birthday today. It doesn't seem two minutes ago that Stan breezed into Turf Moor as our new manager and told reporters that his target was to win the first game, then when asked what his next target was he smiled and said: "To win the second." But it is just a couple of weeks over thirteen years since he told us his team would show endeavour, commitment, a will to win and an excellent level of fitness. He also said, and they are words that are worth repeating: "I think togetherness is important. I would ask the fans to get behind the players and the staff at the club. Together, that's the word, because together we've got a chance." It's now seven years since he left the club, and he currently scouts for Sunderland, the club he supported before joining Burnley as a player. Seven years, yet he's still as popular with the fans as he ever was and I'm sure they'll all be joining us in wishing him a good day. I think he'll enjoy today; a blind man on a galloping horse can see he will. Happy Birthday Stan.
