Grant funding: we're miles away

Sheffield Wednesday have now turned down two offers from Burnley for goalkeeper Lee Grant with manager Alan Irvine suggesting we are miles away from what they would accept. We have made two offers, and both have fallen considerably short of the £1 million that was initially reported with the first at least thought to be less than half that.Irvine has claimed they are miles away, and even so does not want to lose Grant's services ahead of the new season. He said today: "There have been two offers from Burnley but they were well short of what we would regard as being even reasonable."There is no way Lee Grant will be leaving for what was offered. They are miles away. I don't want to lose him. He'll be the best goalkeeper in this division. We are not looking to sell; that was part of the discussion I had with the board when I got the budget to work on the squad."There comes a certain point when the board would have to accept offers for any of our players. We don't have to accept ANY offers. As far as I am concerned, Lee is a very important player for us and he is under contract."If that's the leve of what Burnley are offering, he is going nowhere."Having had surgery on a shoulder injury this summer, Grant is close to being available for match action. Will that be with Sheffield Wednesday? Today they have learned they are facing a winding up order brought by HMRC. Whilst that doesn't suggest they are in any real danger, it does indicate there are serious financial problems at Hillsborough and players could well have to be sold.
