09 March 2010 15:09
Burnley's second in the 2-1 win against West Ham, scored directly from a free kick by Danny Fox, has won the February Goal of the Month vote. Fox had a dream debut, getting an assist on the first goal scored by David Nugent and then curling a free kick into the top corner past England goalkeeper Rob Green to double the lead and score what proved to be the winner. It was one of five goals in the February vote and it took over half of that vote with 53.0%. The only one of the other four goals to get any significant number of votes was Martin Paterson's in the last home game against Portsmouth when he lobbed the ball over David James. That got him 37.3%.That left the other three goals fighting for the remaining votes with Nugent's against West Ham coming third followed by the two against Aston Villa by Steven Fletcher and Paterson.Fox joins the previous monthly winners - Robbie Blake (August v Manchester United), David Nugent (September v Sunderland), Robbie Blake (October v Blackburn), Kevin McDonald (November v Manchester City) and Steven Fletcher (Dec/Jan v Chelsea).
