Fletcher's Chelsea goal wins vote

With only two goals scored in open play during December the monthly Goal of the Month vote was suspended and the goals were included in a joint December/January vote last week. Even with two months of games there were still just four goals and the last of those four won the vote by a massive distance.Steven Fletcher's equaliser a week last Saturday against Chelsea came within just a few minutes of earning us a point against the league leaders, but although Chelsea grabbed a late equaliser the goal was still considered the best of the two months.Taking a ball from Robbie Blake in his stride, he got past his defender, got the ball under control and half volleyed it in to Petr Cech's right. It was Burnley's first goal since Brian Laws became manager and it won Fletcher no less than 84.3% of the vote.Wade Elliott's volley against Fulham in the same cricket field end goal came second with 11.6% but the other two - David Nugent v Bolton and Fletcher v MK Franchise collected just 4.1% of the vote between them.Fletcher's goal now joins two Robbie Blake goals, against Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, David Nugent's second against Sunderland and the equaliser at Manchester City from Kevin McDonald as the monthly winners.Currently the man of the match vote for the West Ham game is underway and that runs until the end of tomorrow when it will be replaced with the man of the match vote from tomorrow night's game at Fulham.
