Wes Fletcher has signed a new deal with the Clarets that will see him remain at Turf Moor for another two seasons. He's already had two years as a pro at Burnley and made his first team deubt in the Carling Cup win at Morecambe last season, coming on as a late substitute. In terms of league action, he's enjoyed loans with Grimsby and Stockport. He turned in some excellent performances in the reserves last season and manager Eddie Howe was always keen to get him signed up. He said today: "We rate Wes very highly. We think he has a lot of ability. "He probably needs to go and play, whether that he a loan spell or be with us. I think he needs to get some professional games under his belt but he's got something. He's got pace, he's a good finisher and he scores goals. "We have high hopes for him and it's on his shoulders now to see how far he can develop." Wes would have made the squad for the last game of the season but missed out with injury. "It was a shame I was injured for the last game because the manager said I would have been involved," he said. "But hopefully I can crack on this year and get myself there. This is the biggest year I'm going to have really to make the breakthrough. That second year is always there but this year I'm hoping to make the breakthrough and play for the first team. "Jay is the prime example. He's done very well and hopefully I can follow in his footsteps. From the youth team I did make the step up to the reserves and hopefully I can carry on that ladder." Wes signing means all the players offered new deals by Eddie Howe last May have now committed themselves to the club.
