Fixtures and cup draw this week

13 June 2011 10:47
The 2011/12 season will edge ever closer this week with the release of the league fixtures on Friday, preceded by the Carling Cup 1st round draw on Thursday. The cup draw is at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday and although there has been no confirmation as yet from the league it looks as though the first round again will be on a north/south basis with clubs also seeded. That would place is in the seeded group in the north meaning we can expect our opponents to potentially be one of Accrington, Bradford City, Bury, Chesterfield, Crewe, Hartlepool, Macclesfield, Morecambe, Northampton, Notts County, Oldham, Port Vale, Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday, Shrewsbury, Tranmere and Walsall. It will be the first time we've had to enter the Carling Cup at this stage for three years; that was the 2008/09 season when two Martin Paterson goals gave us a 2-0 win at Bury in a season that saw us reach the semi-final. Almost a day later, at 9:00 a.m. on Friday come the league fixtures for the 2011/12 season. Again, and for a seventh successive season, we are able to bring you these fixtures on Clarets Mad thanks to the support of Burnley Football Club.
