First Man of the Match for Marney

09 February 2011 13:27
Dean Marney scored the first goal on Saturday in the win over Norwich City and his overall performance won him the match award, his first since signing from Hull City last summer. Marney had scored our previous league goal, an overhead kick at Portsmouth, and opened the scoring in the Norwich game with a crisp low shot into the corner from just outside the box at the cricket field end.It wasn't just his goal however. His overall performance was outstanding and ensured he won both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.Marney polled 48.0% of the man of the match vote to win it comfortably with new England man Jay Rodriguez taking second place with 15.8% of the vote. Goalkeeper Lee Grant, who made three excellent saves in the second half, came in third with 9.5% of the vote. There was no change with the player ratings with the same three players taking the same three positions. Marney's rating of 8.05 out of 10 gave him first place; Rodriguez was second with a rating of 7.72 and Grant's 7.56 out of 10 won him third place.Marney, therefore, wins the maximum six points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year with four points for Rodriguez and two for Grant. The points have made no difference to the top of the table where it remains a two horse race between Jack Cork and Chris Eagles.Voting is now underway for the January Goal of the Month and that runs until the end of Friday.Clarets Mad Player of the Year Table82: Jack Cork63: Chris Eagles36: Andre Bikey31: Clarke Carlisle30: Tyrone Mears25: Wade Elliott & Lee Grant23: Jay Rodriguez17: Dean Marney15: Michael Duff13: Chris Iwelumo11: Danny Fox & Brian Jensen9: Brian Easton8: Ross Wallace6: Martin Paterson3: Leon Cort, John Guidetti & Steven Thompson1: Graham Alexander & Charlie Austin
