Fergie blasts 'frivolous' United

20 August 2009 08:48
While United dominated possession at Turf Moor apart from a little Clarets flurry that brought their goal, scored in style by Robbie Blake on 19 minutes, they had few decent opportunities. Michael Owen failed to make contact with a couple of them, while neither Wayne Rooney nor Park Ji-Sung could find the net once Michael Carrick had failed from the spot shortly before the break. "It was a bad performance considering the chances and possession we had," said Ferguson. "Maybe if we had got the penalty just before half time it would have made a difference but in saying, that we were too frivolous with the chances we had. "It has been a long time out of the top flight for them and you cannot deny them their victory." United have another tricky away test in the league at Wigan on Saturday, while their following three fixtures also look difficult - home to Arsenal (Saturday August 29), away to Tottenham (Saturday September 12) and home to Manchester City (Sunday September 20).
