Ex-Clarets in action at Rammy

With the FA and ESPN messing up my weekend by moving the West Ham game to the ridiculous 8:00 p.m. on a Monday, I decided to take in a Vodkat League game where I came across two former Burnley players with news of a third. Liam Newman - scored WInsford's goalIt was off to the Riverside at Ramsbottom for their top of the table clash against Winsford United. They went into the game with the two clubs in third and second place in the Vodkat League Premier Division respectively, Winsford holding a nine point advantage over Ramsbottom although having played five games more.I knew I'd be seeing one familiar face in the Ramsbottom side with Joel Pilkington now in his second season there, but opposing him was Liam Newman who was released by the Clarets at the end of last season following two years as an apprentice. It was Pilkington and Ramsbottom who came out on top despite a difficult start to the game. They took the lead on 27 minutes through Lee Gaskell but it was very much against the run of play. It was a lead they held for just six minutes when Newman was first onto a rebound from the home goalkeeper to net.Ramsbottom regained the lead right half time with a Ryan Moore goal and it was Moore again, four minutes from time, who scored a good goal to give the home side a 3-1 win. Both former Burnley players did well and there was good news of a third with Dan Brown, who was an apprentice with us from 2007 to 2009, having signed this week for Winsford Town.
