Ex-Claret Knowles back in the Football League
One transfer that went through on deadline day at the end of March that was missed by Clarets Mad was that of Dominic Knowles who has signed for League Two club Burton Albion.
Dom has had an interesting year since being released by Eddie Howe at the end of the 2011/12 season. He did make the first team bench for Howe but didn't make it onto the pitch.
After trials with Stevenage and York, and he was very close to signing for York, t the end of the summer he signed for Gainsborough Trinity who are in the Blue Square North.
He had a successful few months there and had scored ten goals for them, that was until he was axed by the club when they found out he'd been to a trial with Burton. At the time Knowles said: "I did have my reasons for not telling them about the trial, but I do not want to go into them.
"I enjoyed my time at Gainsborough. I appreciated the opportunity to play some football. I was on a non-contract basis and if they felt stronger they could have offered me a contract earlier. The lads at the club have been great and it's a shame that it has to end this way."
He remained in the same league, signing non-contract forms with Harrogate Town in January and went on to have two and a half excellent months there, scoring ten goals in fourteen games.
That brought with it renewed interest from Burton and on that transfer deadline he joined the League Two club.
Harrogate manager Simon Weaver, while reluctant to see Knowles go, said: "Dom has done really well for us during his time here. Burton have been looking at him for a while and there was always a possibility that this may happen.
"He has a burning desire to play at a high level and that is the reason why he wouldn't contemplate signing a contract at Conference North level. He is an ambitious lad and was great on and off the pitch.
"We will keep in touch with him and hope he achieves the success he deserves."
