England for us tonight was all about Jay
An uninspiring England team were beaten 2-0 tonight by Chile with both goals scored by Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez, one in the opening minutes and the second deep into stoppage time.
I'm not sure when an England team last had two former Clarets in the line up but that was the case tonight. Gary Cahill, who was with Burnley nine years ago on loan from Aston Villa, won his 21st cap in the centre of defence alongside Phil Jones.
But all Burnley eyes were on the number 11, one of our own Jay Rodriguez who was winning his first cap. It wasn't the easiest of nights for him, through no fault of his own, but he played until the 57th minute when he was replaced by Tottenham's Andros Townsend.
Jay became the first Burnley born player to represent England at full international level since Jerry Dawson won his second and last cap in April 1922. although in more recent years Brian Miller (Hapton) and Micky Phelan (Nelson) won caps for England.
Elsewhere, Danny Lafferty won his 8th cap for Northern Ireland. He played the first 76 minutes of their 1-0 friendly defeat in Turkey before giving way to Ryan McGivern in a game that saw Martin Paterson play the full ninety minutes.
Steven Fletcher was in the Scotland team held 0-0 at Hampden Park by the USA. In his first international since March he played the whole game although Danny Fox was an unused substitute.
The only former Claret in competitive action was Fulham's Alex Kačaniklić. He was in the Sweden team that were beaten 1-0 by Portugal in Lisbon in the first play-off leg. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late goal to give the Portuguese a one goal advantage going into the second leg.
Canada were beaten 2-0 in a friendly by the Czech Republic but David Edgar was not in the squad.
The INTERNATIONALS feature has been updated to add the caps for all six players who played tonight.
