Elliott escapes FA sanction

Burnley midfielder Wade Elliott has escaped a possible suspension after the FA took no further action over his clash with Blackburn Rovers defender Pascal Chimbonda.

Elliott had seemed to aim a kick at Chimbonda during the 3-2 derby defeat at Ewood Park last Sunday, but referee Chris Foy decided against further punishment after reviewing video footage of the incident.

An FA spokesperson confirmed: "Mr Foy said that based on the footage he has seen and taking the circumstances into consideration, he cannot say for sure he would have shown a red card.

"Under the rules we are only permitted to take retrospective action if the referee says he would have shown a red card.

"On that basis we will not take any further action against Wade Elliott."

Mr Foy's decision ensures that Elliott is free to feature for the Clarets against Wigan Athletic this Saturday.
