Eight goals clinch title for Chelsea

10 May 2010 13:52
A massive 8-0 win for Chelsea against Wigan meant Manchester United's 4-0 win over Stoke counted for nothing as the Premier League title returned to West London for the first time since 2006. Once Gary Caldwell was sent off at Stamford Bridge there was never any question that Chelsea wouldn't go on and take the title. They hit eight goals having previously scored seven on three other occasions. Manchester United are runners up whilst both Arsenal and Tottenham make the Champions League. The three Europa Cup places go to Manchester City, Aston Villa and Liverpool although Liverpool would have missed out altogether had Portsmouth been allowed to enter. Fulham will also qualify for the Europa Cup should they win the final this week.At the end of the season we've also included the average attendances of each club, plus their highest and lowest attendances of the season. We didn't pull in the highest attendance anywhere this season, but neither did we attract the lowest attendance for any club. Manchester United (4) and Arsenal & Spurs (3) attracted the most highest attendances whilst Fulham (4) and Portsmouth (3) attracted the most of the lowest attendances. The last stats are all below, the next we show in August will once again concentrate on the Championship. The Week's ResultsSunday 9th MayArsenal 4 Fulham 0Everton 1 Portsmouth 0Aston Villa 0 Blackburn 1Hull 0 Liverpool 0Bolton 2 Birmingham 1Manchester United 4 Stoke 0Burnley 4 Tottenham 2West Ham 1 Manchester City 1Chelsea 8 Wigan 0Wolves 2 Sunderland 1The Week's StatsBiggest winChelsea 8-0 v Wigan (home)Total goals scored32 (26 home - 6 away)Player scoring most goals3 - Didier Drogba (Chelsea)Highest Attendance75,316 - Manchester United v StokeLowest Attendance21,161 - Burnley v TottenhamTotal Yellow Cards26Total Red Cards3Most cards in a gameBolton v Birmingham (7Y) - Kevin FriendThe leading scorers (league only)29Didier Drogba (Chelsea)26Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)24Darren Bent (Sunderland)23Carlos Tevez (Manchester City)22Frank Lampard (Chelsea)18Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)Fernando Torres (Liverpool)15Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)14Emmanuel Adebayor (Manchester City)13Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)Louis Saha (Everton)12Dimitar Berbatov (Manchester United)Florent Malouda (Chelsea)11Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea)10Andrey Arshavin (Arsenal)Craig Bellamy (Manchester City)John Carew (Aston Villa)Carlton Cole (West Ham)Cameron Jerome (Birmingham)Hugo Rodallega (Wigan)Hat Tricks (league only)19th Aug3 - Jermain Defoe - Hull v TOTTENHAM12th Sep3 - Yossi Benayoun - LIVERPOOL v Burnley26th Sep4 - Robbie Keane - TOTTENHAM v Burnley26th Sep3 - Fernando Torres - LIVERPOOL v Hull31st Oct3 - Aruna Dindane - PORTSMOUTH v Wigan21st Nov5 - Jermain Defoe - TOTTENHAM v Wigan28th Nov3 - Wayne Rooney - Portsmouth v MANCHESTER UNITED11th Jan3 - Carlos Tevez - MANCHESTER CITY v Blackburn23rd Jan4 - Wayne Rooney - MANCHESTER UNITED v Hull9th Mar3 - Darren Bent - SUNDERLAND v Bolton27th Mar4 - Frank Lampard - CHELSEA v Aston Villa29th Mar3 - Carlos Tevez - MANCHESTER CITY v Wigan25th Apr3 - Salomon Kalou - CHELSEA v Stoke9th May3 - Didier Drogba - CHELSEA v WiganDisciplinary Record (all domestic games)ClubYRClubYRArsenal711Liverpool585Aston Villa752Manchester City673Birmingham801Manchester United676Blackburn704Portsmouth845Bolton775Stoke785Burnley663Sunderland919Chelsea685Tottenham661Everton652West Ham723Fulham511Wigan653Hull736Wolves664Average Attendances (league only)AvgeClubHighLow74,864Manchester United75,31673,70959,927Arsenal60,10359,08445,512Manchester City47,37040,29242,863Liverpool44,39237,69741,422Chelsea41,83640,13740,355Sunderland47,64134,82138,573Aston Villa42,78832,91736,725Everton39,65232,16335,794Tottenham36,04135,31833,683West Ham34,98930,02428,365Wolves29,02326,66827,162Stoke27,60425,10425,428Blackburn29,91221,28725,246Birmingham28,95819,92224,389Hull25,03022,82223,909Fulham25,70020,83121,880Bolton25,37017,84920,653Burnley21,76118,39718,249Portsmouth20,82116,20718,006Wigan22,11314,323
