Edgar ready for Canada friendly

Burnley defender David Edgar wants to show he has what it takes to feature for Canada in Friday's friendly against Ukraine in Kiev after winning a call up from coach Stephen Hart. Edgar had the opportunity to pit his wits against Argentina in a friendly before the World Cup finals, but he had to withdraw from the side after playing the best man role at a friend's wedding. "I was hoping to get a call-up sooner or later," he said. I was a bit disappointed not to get a call-up for the game in Toronto (against Peru last month) to play in front of family and friends but I was really excited to get this call-up and I'm really hoping to make the most of it. "I am going to train hard through the week and hopefully show him that I am ready to play. The coach tries to watch as many games as he can of the players overseas and keeps in touch with them all. "He asked me why I haven't been playing and I told him it's difficult to get in the team at the moment. For him to still call me up I'm really excited about and hopefully I can get some playing time."
