Chris Eagles brought Burnley level in the Carling Cup tie against Morecambe, a game we went on to win 3-1, and his goal has won the first Clarets Mad Goal of the Month Award of the 2010/11 season. Burnley scored eight league and cup goals during August with two of them from the penalty spot; Graham Alexander in the 3-0 win against Leicester and Steven Thompson in that win at Morecambe. The other six goals were included in the vote with Eagles coming out on top. With the Clarets behind in the game it was Jack Cork who played the ball into the box where Thompson headed it down into the path of Eagles who finished expertly with a shot into the bottom corner. That goal won 38.7% of the vote whilst in second place was Clarke Carlisle's late, late equaliser at Ipswich on the second Saturday of the season. He polled 25.1% of the vote with what was our first goal from a corner since the end of the 2008/09 season. He was first to Alexander's left wing corner and steered his header into the far top corner to give ten man Burnley a point when all had seemed lost.A typical Wade Elliott run and Chris Iwelumo's first Burnley goal took third place. It came in first half stoppage time in the Nottingham Forest game on the opening day of the season. Elliott made the run from a central position out to the right and crossed for Iwelumo to score with a diving header. The 21.1% share of the vote took third place. The Eagles goal will automatically be included in the Goal of the Season vote next May, along with all the other monthly winners and some that didn't quite make it.The August result38.7% - Chris Eagles v Morecambe (a)25.1% - Clarke Carlisle v Ipswich (a) 21.1% - Chris Iwelumo v Nottingham Forest (h) 7.8% - Kevin McDonald v Morecambe (a) 4.3% - Chris Iwelumo v Leicester (h) 2.9% - Ross Wallace v Preston (h)
