Eagles backs Gray for longer role

Burnley winger Chris Eagles sees no reason why caretaker boss Stuart Gray should not continue in the role until the end of the season at least. Gray ended his initial three-game stint as boss with a 4-2 win over Port Vale in the FA Cup on Saturday. And while the Clarets continue their search for a new manager following Brian Laws' recent departure, Eagles has backed Gray's claims to be given the role permanently. Eagles said: "I have loved it and I will be upset if I don't see him managing the next game. I'd make it loud and clear that I want him to stay. "Whether the title is manager, I want him to be in charge of us for the rest of the season. Personally I think he's brilliant and for the morale of the team he is doing nothing wrong. "It's been a hard job since Brian Laws left, but I think Stuart deserves a go at it and I will be with him all the way."
