Duff desperate for Clarets action
Duff has been forced to sit out the opening to the 2009/10 campaign after picking up an ankle problem during the pre-season tour of America.
The 31-year-old has spent the last month attempting to shake off the knock, desperate to be involved in the Clarets' debut season in the Premier League.
His efforts to force his way back into the fold have been helped of late by a reserve outing, a behind-closed-doors friendly and a fundraising game against Accrington Stanley.
Having come through those contests unscathed, Duff has now set his sights on securing a recall to the first-team fold for Saturday's visit from Sunderland.
"It's one of those situations where you just have to try to knock on the door," Duff told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"It's a tough one for me, though, because I'm fit now so it's up to the gaffer. He knows what I can do."
Duff has had to watch on in recent weeks as Burnley have shipped seven goals without a reply in their last two fixtures, against Chelsea and Liverpool.
However, the Northern Ireland international believes the club can still take heart from a bright opening which has already seen them secure memorable home victories over Manchester United and Everton.
"I don't think the scores from the last two first-team games reflect the performances of the back four especially. Personally, I think they've played well," he added.
"It's just the opposition you're playing against. Sometimes when they have that much of the ball they're going to create chances.
"I think anything we were to get from the first five games was a bonus, and we've already beaten one of the top four. But it's important that we do well against the teams that will be in and around us, and those games have yet to come."
