Driver deal edging closer

Published: 12 Jun 2010 - 09:11:25

Burnley are believed to be close to the capture of Hearts winger Andrew Driver despite interest from other clubs including Middlesbrough and Chelsea. News broke earlier this week that the Clarets had tabled a bid of around £1.5 million for the Oldham born player who this week was cleared to play for Scotland. It looked as though that wouldn't be enough to tempt the SPL club and with reported interest from other clubs, even surprisingly Premier League and FA Cup winners Chelsea, our hopes of getting him didn't look much brighter than they'd done in the two previous years. But Burnley director Brendan Flood has been dealing with Driver's agent and it appears a deal, that could even reach the £3 million we paid for Steven Fletcher, could be close with Driver finally joining the Clarets two years after we were first linked with him.Meanwhile, speculation continues that Billy Sharp could still be on the radar although he's currently out of the country on honeymoon.Driver though might just be our third summer signing following the capture of Hull midfielder Dean Marney and Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo.
