Crossley, man in the middle at Elland Road

29 April 2011 17:12
Phil Crossley from Kent is the referee for our last away league game of the season tomorrow; the crunch clash against Leeds United at Elland Road. It is just his second Burnley game, and we have to go back over four and a half years to the last one when we beat Norwich 4-1 at Carrow Road which, like tomorrow's game, was screened live by Sky.The day was such a good one for Burnley that the referee went almost unnoticed other than the sending off of Norwich's Gary Doherty, a decision which he had to make. He's refereed Leeds more recently, in November during this season when he took charge of their 3-1 home win against Bristol City, and it is reported that Leeds have usually had good results when he's been the referee. This season he's refereed 33 games and there have been 88 yellow and 7 red cards in those games. 31 of those yellow cards have gone to home team players and 57 to away team players suggesting we'll be considerably more likely to pick up cards than Leeds. His last game was two weeks ago, the League Two 2-2 draw between Wycombe and Northampton. Guillem Bauza, Josh Walker, Stephen Collis and Nana Ofori-Twumasi (all Northampton) were the four players yellow carded. The assistant referees tomorrow are Andy Newell and Scott Oldham (both Lancashire). The fourth official is Football League referee Fred Graham (Essex) who is yet to referee a Burnley game.Previous Burnley games:SeasonOppsVResYRBurnley players carded2006/07Norwicha4-121Sinclair [J]O'Connor
