Coyle rues Caldwell absence

Burnley boss Owen Coyle is hopeful that his side will be able to cope without suspended captain Steven Caldwell in this weekend's clash with Portsmouth.

The 29-year-old central defender is suspended for the Fratton Park showdown as a result of the red card he was shown in last weekend's 5-3 defeat at West Ham United.

Coyle told the club's official website: "He's been an outstanding captain for me and will continue to be.

"We are disappointed not to have him for Saturday, but he will bounce back and he will show what a true leader he is.

"I thought it was a harsh sending-off. I understand why it was given, but on another day it might not have been.

"But it's happened. He will miss a game and he's been in good form and we will have to adjust accordingly.

"We have players who can fill in and that's what we will do and look to play the best team possible to win the game."
