Coyle: City treated Hughes harshly

The manner in which Hughes was sacked - after City's 4-3 victory over Sunderland on Saturday - was controversial, especially with the side sixth in the Premier League and in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.[LNB]Coyle has great sympathy for the former Wales and Blackburn boss but he thinks Roberto Mancini has to be allowed time to get things right.[LNB]And he believes the former Inter Milan coach has the necessary qualities to have success at Eastlands.[LNB]"I think we have to separate the two issues and we have to give the new manager an opportunity to let him do his work," said Coyle.[LNB]"Yes Mark was harshly treated, no doubt about it, but Roberto Mancini deserves every chance to go and do his job.[LNB]"You always welcome new managers coming in because you know how tough it is.[LNB]"And you have to give him a fair chance. You don't win three Serie A titles without being good at your job.[LNB]"It certainly makes it easier for him when you have a lot of money at your disposal because what it leads to is bringing very good players to your club and that enhances your team."[LNB]Coyle praised the work Hughes did in his 18-month spell at City and backed the ex-Manchester United striker to bounce back in management.[LNB]"Mark did a fantastic job. He worked his socks off to earn the right to be Manchester City manager and he brought some very good players to the club," added the Scot.[LNB]"You need time for those players to gel because, as good as they are, they need time to build relationships and partnerships.[LNB]"I don't think he was given time to do it and we all felt Mark was harshly treated.[LNB]"There is no doubt he will be back bigger and better for his experience, as hurtful as it has been."[LNB]Coyle said the sacking of Hughes, who admittedly was in one of the most high-pressure jobs in the Premier League, showed just how fragile the career of a manager could be.[LNB]"Being a manager there is no getting away from the trials and tribulations the job brings - that is something we are acutely aware of," he said.[LNB]"All you can do is do your best until such time someone decides that is not good enough. But it is disappointing for Mark."[LNB]Burnley's former Manchester City defender Stephen Jordan was surprised by the decision to axe Hughes.[LNB]"It is a bit of a strange decision with the team sixth in the league and in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup," said the ex-City trainee.[LNB]"It was a bit premeditated I suppose."[LNB][LNB]
