Cotterill in at Pompey
Former Burnley manager Steve Cotterill is the new Portsmouth manager. He was confirmed by the south coast club this morning and has signed a three year contract. Portsmouth escaped potential liquidation again yesterday when they ripped off their creditors by offering them 20% and in doing so wiped out potentially over £100 million of debts. That's allowed them to go forward and Cotterill was waiting in the wings to take over after leaving Notts County a few weeks ago. He'd been at Notts County since February and had led them to fourteen wins and just one defeat in seventeen games. It was his first management job since he left Burnley in November 2007, but now he's back in the Championship and somewhat closer to his family home in the Bournemouth area.Already it looks as though Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, a friend of Steve and a former Portsmouth manager himself, is going to help out with some loans with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose having been mentioned. It will be some time before he makes a return to Turf Moor. Portsmouth don't travel here until 25th April with the Clarets at Fratton Park on 4th December.I am pleased to see Steve back in the Championship, but I can't really wish him well at a club that in all honesty should now be out of business.
