Coote is back to referee on the Turf

Nottinghamshire referee David Coote takes charge of our home game tomorrow against Charlton Athletic at Turf Moor in what will be his third Burnley game.

Coote became a Football League referee for the 2010/11 season but it was only last season that he was first allocated a Burnley game. He refereed us twice in 2012/13 with both games ending in 3-3 draws.

In the first of them, the home game against Sheffield Wednesday, he had a decent game, but he had a bizarre afternoon at Watford on Good Friday, booking the wrong player when we won a penalty, and even getting in the way and getting an assist on Watford's second goal.

Although still listed as a Notts referee, Coote is now Manchester based and is the Referee Development Officer  with the Manchester FA, a role he'd previously filled with the Notts FA. That means he's got the responsibility for managing all referees, assessors and tutors within the county.

He's a referee who has averaged around three yellow cards per game since his introduction into the League. Last season, for example, there were 96 in 32 games, and this season, to date, he's yellow carded 17 players in six games, one of which has been in the Championship.

Eight of the cards have gone to home team players and nine to away team players. His last game, Tranmere's 2-0 home defeat to Stoke in the Capital One Cup in Wednesday, was card free.

David Coote is currently in 26th place in RATE THE REF with a rating of 64 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Paul Hodskinson and Paul Kettlewell (both Lancashire). The fourth official is Football League referee Seb Stockbridge (Tyne & Wear) who is still to referee a Burnley game.
