Connelly funeral to go past Turf Moor

Ex Burnley and England winger John Connelly sadly passed away last Thursday after losing his long battle against cancer.

The flag at Turf Moor is currently flying at half mast for John and the players wore black arm bands at Cardiff on Saturday.

John's funeral will be held next Monday, 5th November, and supporters will get the opportunity to pay their final respects when his funeral cortege passes Turf Moor at 9:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service at St. Mary's RC Church in Yorkshire Street which will be held at 10:00 a.m. before a private burial in Barrowford.

Tributes have poured in for the former Burnley great. His former team mate Jimmy McIlroy said on hearing the news: "It's a terrible shock. John was such a lovely fellow, always ready with a joke, an extremely popular and humble man.

"It was a privilege to play alongside him. I watched him closely and he was as talented as it got. I used to tell him he was good enough to play for any team in the world."

There were so many tributes paid to 'Nelly' last week and two caught my eye for very different reasons.

The first, from IVAN PONTING in the Independent and the other, a very personal tribute, comes from DANY ROBSON, daughter of ex-Claret Jimmy Robson and Connelly's Goddaughter which was in the Manchester Evening News.

My thoughts remain very much with John's wife Sandra and the Connelly family at this very sad time.
