Competition at Clarets
Burnley manager Brian Laws has told his players nobody is guaranteed a place in his starting line-up next season.
Laws hopes to field nearly all his first-team squad in their opening pre-season friendly at Bury on Saturday, including summer signings Dean Marney, Chris Iwelumo and Ross Wallace, and is looking forward to the competition for starting places.
Laws said: "We've got strength in every position so you will almost be seeing two teams, although we will be mixing them up."
He added: "There's nobody who has fixed a position. Nobody is guaranteed a place on August 7. Everyone is fighting for a place and there are going to be some interesting contests, no more so than in defence where we are really strong and where we have high numbers of good quality players."
