Clarets will stick to their guns
17 Aug 2009 - 16:31:32
Burnley's Graham Alexander believes that the Clarets will not have to change their playing style to succeed in the Premier League.
In their top flight debut on Saturday, Owen Coyle's side were defeated 2-0 by direct-minded Stoke City.
The Clarets enjoyed decent spells during the match at the Britannia Stadium but were undone by two set-pieces from the home side.
And despite learning a harsh lesson of being clinical on Saturday, Alexander insists that the Turf Moor outfit can win points by persisting with their approach of patient passing.
"I don't think we'll have to adapt our style to survive," the Scotland international said.
"Fair play to Stoke, they play to win games and that's what we're all trying to do but we play in a certain way which we think suits us. We don't play it to look pretty, we play it to win games.
"You've got to be committed to your beliefs and principles because that is what we live by and it got us the results last year, got us out of the division we were playing in and that's what will keep us up in this division.
"We're going out to play our way and we'll see how far it will take us."
