Burnley have been given permission by St Johnstone to speak to the Scottish side's boss, Owen Coyle, about the managerial vacancy at Turf Moor.
The Clarets have identified Coyle as the man they want to succeed Steve Cotterill but were denied the chance to speak to him by the Perth-based side on Tuesday.
However, a statement on St Johnstone's official website on Wednesday said: "Burnley Football Club have today improved their offer of compensation to a level which is now acceptable to St Johnstone and, as a result, they have been granted permission to speak to our manager, Owen Coyle."
The Scottish side's chairman Geoff Brown added: "The approach from Burnley this week has come out of the blue and the offer they have made today is improved on the one yesterday.
"I rate Owen highly and that is why he was recently rewarded with a three-year contract and that has been taken into account when discussing compensation figures."
