Burnley boss Steve Cotterill has raided one of his former clubs to sign Cheltenham Town defender Mike Duff for an initial fee of £30,000.
The 25-year-old Northern Ireland international has been at Whaddon Road since 1996, helping the club climb into the Football League, making well over 200 appearances for Town in the process.
Robins chairman Paul Baker told the club's official website: "The club is extremely reluctant to part with Michael, but he desperately wanted the opportunity to play at a higher level after nearly eight years with Cheltenham Town.
"Michael had only one year left on his contract and following discussions with him, it became clear that he could easily walk away for nothing at the end of the season.
"On behalf of the board and I'm sure everyone else at Cheltenham Town, I would like to thank Michael for all his efforts for the club cause and to wish him every success in the future."
