Clarets hopeful over Nugent
26 Nov 2009 - 10:30:33
Burnley are optimistic about the possibility of signing loan striker David Nugent on a permanent basis.
The one-time England international has scored twice in nine outings for the Clarets since his arrival from Portsmouth in August.
The 24-year-old former Preston's striker career had stalled at Fratton Park and both he and Clarets boss Owen Coyle have declared an interest in making his six-month loan deal into a permanent transfer.
Now club chairman Barry Kilby has revealed the Turf Moor club's intention to open negotiations with Portsmouth when the transfer window reopens in January.
"We're in discussions with Owen now to see what we can do," he revealed.
"We're sitting down and seeing where we can strengthen.
"I think David would come here like a shot and we'd like him here, but we'd have to negotiate with Portsmouth when his deal is up."
