Clarets snap up Edgar from Magpies

Edgar made just 23 appearances for Newcastle and the Magpies will be entitled to a compensation fee because he is under 24. The Canadian will add options to Owen Coyle's side next season as he can play anywhere across the backline. The 22-year-old becomes Burnley's third new signing of the summer following the arrivals of Tyrone Mears and Steven Fletcher at Turf Moor. Edgar is keen to get a run of games under his belt after being frustrated at Newcastle. His agent, Barry MacLean told Ontario newspaper The Record: "I'd say he's pretty happy. We're looking for him to play regularly at this stage of his career. "For him to play regular first-team football is critical for him." Edgar's father Eddie played in goal for Newcastle and Hartlepool before emigrating.
