Clarets pay the penalty

Burnley manager Brian Laws was stunned to see Graham Alexander miss a penalty in the goalless draw at home to Bristol City. The Clarets dominated the npower Championship clash from start to finish but saw their 100% home record disappear as a result of their wasteful finishing, City's solid defending and a helping of bad luck. The usually reliable Alexander wasted the clearest chance when he sent his first-half spot-kick wide, failing to score from the penalty spot for the first time in a Burnley shirt. "I think we were all shocked when Graham Alexander's penalty went wide," said Laws "It becomes a formality. He has a phenomenal record and it was probably inevitable he'd miss one eventually. "He's disappointed because he believes they are a formality, but I certainly won't be giving him a hard time. He'll be working hard and he'll be first in line the next time we get a penalty."
