Clarets help Cardiff to go top
Queens Park Rangers have been top of the Championship all season; that was until we got our draw there on Saturday, opening the way for Cardiff to go top with a 3-1 home win against Norwich. Jay Bothroyd was the star again, scoring one and involved in all three goals, but he'll be out of their game against Swansea this weekend having been yellow carded five times. I'm not sure even the FAW can do much about that.It's been a good October for Cardiff with maximum points which should guarantee Dave Jones the manager of the month, pipping our former boss Steve Cotterill whose Portsmouth team have dropped just two points.They won again on Saturday and are now right in that group with us on 21 points. and yet started the month in the relegation places. They are still overspending; even Neil Warnock admitted they couldn't compete with the wages they're offering. Maybe that Pompey saga isn't over yet.Reading hit another four this week but this time had to come from 3-1 behind before beating Doncaster. This win has taken them into the top six with Watford dropping out after their 4-1 defeat at Derby.Down at the bottom, the three clubs who started the day in the relegation places are still there although bottom club Bristol City did move up two places by winning at Middlesbrough. They really did spoil the homecoming party up there for Tony Mowbray, the latest new Championship Manager.The BBC's highlights programme on Saturday night featured the game and showed Mowbray scoring with a diving header during his playing days there and there was another current manager in this division providing the ball into the box, none other than Brian Laws.There were some good goals over the weekend including Adel Taarabt's and Adam Hammill's for Barnsley, to name two, but the goal of the day surely had to be Marvin Elliott's winner for Brizzle at the Riverside, a superbly executed volley from 20-yards.We've dropped to eighth now as we look to become the division's draw specialists. We have six, as do QPR, but we are both one behind Nottingham Forest who have drawn seven of their fourteen league games.The stats from the weekend games, the leading goalscorers, each club's disciplinary records and the next fixtures are all shown below, accompanied this week by each club's average league attendances.Burnley have dropped two places to 15th since we last showed the average attendances, with both Portsmouth and Crystal Palace going above us.
