Clarets and Canaries clash in cup for first time

Burnley have been drawn away against Premier League Norwich City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup and this will be the first time the two clubs have ever clashed in this competition.

There have been two previous meetings in the League Cup. The first of them came in the second round in the 1977/78 season when Tony Morley, Peter Noble and Billy Ingham scored in a 3-1 home win which set us up with a tie against Ipswich Town.

Ten years later and we were paired again in the same round, this time a two legged affair. We drew the home game 1-1 after George Oghani had given us the lead, but lost 1-0 in the second leg at Carrow Road.

Our more recent games against Norwich have been in the Championship and they'll recall that, in their promotion season a year ago, we took four points from them and it really should have been six. We drew 2-2 at Norwich, despite holding a 2-0 at half time with two Martin Paterson goals, and in the return at Turf Moor we won 2-1 with Dean Marney and Jay Rodriguez getting our goals.

This tie, at Carrow Road, is likely to be played on Saturday 7th January 2012.
