Chris McCann signs two year deal

Midfielder Chris McCann will not be playing his football for Bolton Wanderers next season, but will be at Burnley after he put pen to paper on a new two year deal at Turf Moor. This, we all hope, will bring to an end a nightmare two years for Chris since he was injured in just our sixth Premier League game against Sunderland in September 2009. It's been a long time, and it certainly has for the Irishman who first joined the Clarets as an apprentice in the summer of 2004. He was quickly earmarked as a potential first team player and after being involved with the first team in pre-season 2005 he got his debut against Coventry in just the third game of the 2005/06 season. By the time we'd reached the Premier League he could boast no fewer than 140 league appearances but, because of the injury, he had to wait until April of this year and our game at Leeds for his 150th league appearance in Burnley colours. He'd fought back from injury so well to play the last four games of last season. A goal on his return in a good performance at Derby was eclipsed by how he played on the last day of the season against Cardiff. It was the McCann of old and then followed this long wait amidst speculation that he might be off to the Reebok. I've remained confident all summer that he'd still be a Burnley player but it is still a relief to have got the news today. No matter who comes in, no matter who leaves, this, for me,  will be the best piece of business we do all summer and I can't wait to have Chris McCann back in the Burnley team on a regular basis.
