Charlie was our star at Derby
Kieran Trippier goes into the international break leading the way for the Clarets Mad Player of the Year but it was two goal Charlie Austin who took the plaudits and the points from our first league win of the season at Derby a week ago. Austin gave Burnley the lead early in the second half,. He was in place just a few yards out to finish after a superb run from Keith Treacy, and he got the winner when he latched on to a rebound off goalkeeper Frankie Fielding. It wasn't just the goals. He gave the Derby defence a difficult time all afternoon and he is a very worthy winner of both the man of the match vote and the player ratings. He polled no less than 61.0% of the man of the match vote. That percentage has been beaten only once this season, and that by Jay Rodriguez after his four goal haul against Burton Albion in the Carling Cup. Only one other player had double figures. That was David Edgar who was starting in central defence for Burnley for only the third time since signing for the club in the summer of 2009. He took second place with a 12.2% share and Keith Treacy, who created the first goal for Austin and then hit the post at 1-0, was third with 8.1% of the vote. The player ratings very much reflected the man of the match with the same three players taking the same three top positions. This time every player was over the average rating of six and Austin was top. His rating was 8.38 out of 10 and that is the highest rating we've had this season, beating the 8.30 scored by Rodriguez in the game referred to above. Edgar was again second. His rating was 7.71 and Treacy, again came in third with a rating of 7.13 out of 10. This gives Austin six points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. Edgar gets four points, his first points of the season, and Treacy wins two points. It means that Trippier still has a six point lead ahead of Rodriguez, but Austin is now just a further point behind in third place whilst Treacy moves into joint fourth place with Ross Wallace.
