Charlie gets all the plaudits after Posh win

20 September 2012 18:49
Burnley's 5-2 win over Peterborough was definitely Charlie Austin's day. Today he learned that the Press Association had reviewed our second goal and awarded it to him and, to add to that, he was voted our best player on Clarets Mad.

The goal, as we reported earlier, has given Charlie a hat trick, his second for Burnley following on from the one at Portsmouth last season, and his performance was such that he was an easy winner of both the man of the match vote and the player ratings on the message board.

He polled 55.0% of the man of the match vote, and that's the biggest return in any of the votes this season. With over half of the vote it left little for the remaining players with only Chris McCann getting double figures with a 16.2% share.

Junior Stanislas, in arguably his best performance for Burnley, was third with 9.8% and goalkeeper Lee Grant took fourth place with just 5.0% of the vote.

Those four players were also the top four in the player ratings, and in the same order. Austin came out on top with a rating of 8.51 out of 10. That's the fourth highest rating this season with the other three all coming from the performances in the win over Bolton.

McCann was second with a rating of 7.82 and the other two players to record a rating of over seven took third and fourth. Stanislas' rating was 7.71 and Grant's 7.41 out of 10.

The points awarded towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year from the Peterborough game are, therefore, ten for Austin, six for McCann, four for Stanislas and two for Grant.

Those points have taken Austin to the top of the table, six points clear of Grant who has edged two points ahead of Dean Marney into second place. McCann, another point scorer, is fourth and Stanislas, with his first points of the season, has joined the table in tenth place.

Voting is currently in progress for last night's Leicester game. You can vote for your man of the match via the front page of the site or the VOTING POLLS page. PLAYER RATINGS can be posted on Eli's message board.

Please note that, due to the midweek game being played on Wednesday, voting will continue until the end of Saturday. This means the vote for the Derby game will now start at  the beginning of Sunday.
