Carlisle's Preston move completed

Clarke Carlisle's move to Preston North End has been confirmed and he will be on loan at Deepdale for the entire 2011/12 season. He's signed the long term loan deal with his home town club after falling down the pecking order at Turf Moor, but for almost four seasons following his signing from Watford he was just about one of the first choice central defenders. He made his debut in a 2-0 defeat at Scunthorpe in August 2007, just days after he'd arrived following the departure of Wayne Thomas and he soon developed a partnership with Steven Caldwell that served the Clarets well, culminating in that fantastic day at Wembley when we kept a fourth successive clean sheet and Carlisle won the man of the match. "An awesome day," is how an emotional Carlisle described it in a television interview shortly after the final whistle. He played 27 games in the Premier League, missing only when injured, and was still first choice until he was left out after the defeat at Bristol City last April. He's played his last Burnley game now which means only five of the starting eleven from the play off final win - Brian Jensen, Michael Duff, Wade Elliott, Chris McCann and Martin Paterson - remain at Turf Moor. Clarke Carlisle has been a good signing for Burnley and we wish him well at Deepdale in the next chapter of his career. Eddie Howe said: "We are sad to lose Clarke because he has been part of the success the club has had in recent years. He's been a fantastic servant, a fantastic man and a good player as well. "But we felt it was the right decision for us. We wish Clarke well and hope he does well and has a good year."
