Carlisle signs new deal

Central defender Clarke Carlisle, who has been with the Clarets since August 2007, has committed to a further two years at Turf Moor. Carlisle was one of a number of players believed to be out of contract at the end of the season, and indeed he was. But he signed a new deal three months ago that will see him remain at Burnley until the end of the 2011/12 season. He's been somewhat upset at some of the comments made about him on his own web space, including his blog, which he considers to be abuse. Because of this he has asked me to confirm that he has signed this new deal and that he is totally committed to Burnley Football Club. He's currently out injured and hasn't featured in the first team since the home defeat against Wolves when he was so unfortunate to get the deflection that led to their second, and ultimately, winning goal.He has been ruled out of tomorrow's game at Birmingham and so the season could be at an end for the player who was our man of the match at Wembley just over eleven months ago.
