Just a day after Clarke Carlisle confirmed he was looking for a new club, he's done just that and signed for York City who were promoted into League Two from the Blue Square Premier League last season.

He completed his medical at Bootham Crescent this morning before signing for the Minstermen, after which manager Gary Mills said: "I'm delighted to get a good player like Clarke into the club. With that he brings a lot of experience, a lot of leadership and a lot of quality."

Clarke said: "I'm absolutely delighted. You know, after the whole of pre-season has passed I was umming and ahhing about what to do with my personal future, and then I thought the chance had passed because everyone had finalised their squads.

"I spoke to the gaffer and his plans for the club sound really exciting and I'm just delighted to be back in the fray."

Clarke is expected to go straight into York's squad for their home game against Oxford on Saturday.
