Caldwell nears Clarets return

Burnley captain Steven Caldwell is closing in on a return to action, having missed the opening weeks of the new season due to a groin injury.

The 29-year-old centre-back has not featured for the Clarets this term, but was an unused substitute in the 5-0 defeat at Spurs last weekend.

That display may prompt changes from boss Owen Coyle, especially if Caldwell comes through a reserve outing unscathed.

Coyle told the Evening Telegraph: "We've competition in every area. The skipper comes back into the equation, as they all do.

"I know what the problems were at Spurs, it was there for me to see. We'll look to address that.

"It's important we don't over-analyse that, because there were large periods of the game where we looked a very good side.

"But at this level, 50, 60, 70 minutes in the Premier League is not good enough. If you switch off, you'll be punished and that's what's happened.

"We have to have concentration and focus for the duration of the game. We've done that in the home games, and we've got our rewards."
