Caldwell proud of Clarets team-mates

Ruled out by a groin injury picked up on international duty with Scotland last week, Caldwell was consigned to the stands for Turf Moor's biggest night for 33 years.[LNB]Yet, as hard as it was to acknowledge he would miss such a high-profile game, Caldwell knew, as club captain, he had to adopt a wider perspective.[LNB]And, having seen Burnley record such a famous win, he now knows his team-mates have set the standard they must not fall below.[LNB]"I was murder to live with in the afternoon," said Caldwell.[LNB]"It is hugely disappointing to miss a game like.[LNB]"It hurts for a while and is hard to get over. But you have to because there are going to be so many other hugely important games this season and, as club captain, I had a wider role to play before the game.[LNB]"In the end, to watch them put on a performance like that just makes you feel proud and pleased you can call them your team-mates."[LNB]Rather than watch the game through splayed fingers, as some might have been tempted to do, especially when Michael Carrick lined up his fateful first-half penalty, Caldwell attempted to soak up as much information as he could.[LNB]And, instead of watching in awe at a United side crowned the world's best in Japan last December, Caldwell picked out one of his own as the inspirational performer.[LNB]"Martin Paterson set the tone for the whole team and everyone responded," said Caldwell.[LNB]"He gave their defenders such a hard time. He was relentless and in their faces the entire game."[LNB]Caldwell rates himself a 50-50 chance to make Sunday's encounter with Everton at Turf Moor, although it is by no means certain manager Owen Coyle would change a winning team even if his skipper was fit.[LNB]However, whether he makes it or not, Caldwell understands the level Burnley must maintain if they are to achieve their only realistic goal for the entire season; survival.[LNB]"We have beaten the champions at our own place, which proves no game is beyond us if we play to the maximum of our potential and get a bit of luck," he said.[LNB]"Last night we proved we are out there competing. That was a top of the tree performance, truly phenomenal.[LNB]"But we must maintain it for the entire season."[LNB][LNB]
