Caldwell plays for Wigan

Yes, we know Gary Caldwell is a Wigan player so it would be no surprise to see him in their line up, but it was brother Gary who turned out for them last Saturday in their pre-season friendly at Tannadice against Dundee United. The younger of the two Caldwell brothers, Gary, is currently out injured and is recovering from hip surgery, but elder brother Steven was named amongst the substitutes for Wigan on Saturday and came on after just 25 minutes for Steve Gohouri, playing the remainder of the game.Still without a club, the former Burnley captain is hoping to win a contract with the Premier League club and WIgan are taking a look at him."Steven is trying to get his full fitness back and he hasn`t played a lot of football this year," said manager Roberto Martinez."He had a couple of niggles and needs to play football to get his intensity back. You could see how much Steven enjoyed the run-out. He is a talker and a leader and there are not many of his type around."We will speak to Steven, and obviously these things boil down to a few things such as numbers. We need to carry on assessing Steven"
