Caldwell closing on Clarets return
The Clarets skipper has missed an amazing start to the season, which has seen the club beat Manchester United and Everton, after suffering a groin injury on international duty for Scotland in Norway a fortnight ago.
Caldwell will still be sidelined again on Tuesday as Burnley begin their Carling Cup campaign with a trip to Hartlepool.
However, Coyle is expecting his captain to be back in training ahead of Saturday's trip to Chelsea, even if playing a part at Stamford Bridge might be beyond him.
"Steven is responding better," said Coyle.
"He is not quite ready to join us yet but I am hoping he joins in training at some point this week.
"Steven has been outstanding for us and is a big part of what we are doing at this football club.
"He is a gem of a man and the sooner we get him back into the group the better."
