Marney in line for return

Dean Marney could return to bolster Burnley's midfield options when npower Championship basement boys Bristol City travel to Turf Moor.

Former Tottenham and Hull man Marney, 29, last featured in the Clarets' 1-0 home defeat to Huddersfield at the end of February and has since been struck down by a persistent calf complaint.

But boss Sean Dyche is hopeful that the player can end a six-game absence against the Robins, when defensive duo Michael Duff (calf) and Ben Mee (knee) will miss out once more.

Mee endured a lengthy spell on the sidelines with medial knee ligament damage earlier this season but Dyche was happy to report that his problem is not as serious this time around.

"It was a shame for Ben," he said. "He has had rotten luck and now has another slight twist. We have had it checked though and it's not as serious as before, but it will still take days to settle down.

"Michael is coming out of his niggly calf problem, so we're hoping that settles down. It's probably too early for the weekend for him."

Bristol City's late-goal hero on Monday is a doubt.

Sam Baldock's last-gasp strike earned the Robins a point against Sheffield Wednesday, a goal that head coach Sean O`Driscoll admitted lifted the confidence within his squad.

But there is a question mark over the former West Ham striker as well as captain Cole Skuse for a match City really need to win if they are to step up their survival push.

Experienced defender Richard Foster is back in training along with Ryan Taylor but this match is likely to come too soon for the former Rotherham striker.

Rock-bottom Robins, who are yet to win on their travels since O'Driscoll took charge, are six points adrift of safety with time running out.
