Defensive headache for Dyche

Burnley will start life after Charlie Austin when they get the Sky Bet Championship season under way by hosting Bolton.

The striker, who struck 28 times in all competitions for the Clarets last term, moved to QPR on Thursday, ending a two-and-a-half-year stay at Turf Moor.

Boss Sean Dyche has doubts over Ben Mee, who is carrying a knee injury, and defensive colleague Michael Duff, who is troubled by a hamstring problem.

David Jones is in line to make his Burnley bow following his arrival on Thursday while fellow new recruit Tom Heaton is likely to start in goal.

Bolton will kick off the season with three long-term injuries to contend with.

Stuart Holden's injury woes continued when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee while on international duty with the United States.

The midfielder therefore joined young full-back Joe Riley on sidelines - the defender having suffered a similar injury - and Mark Davies, who the Trotters are hopeful will be back before Christmas from a knee problem.

Striker Jermaine Beckford could make his Bolton debut but will not do so in tandem with Marvin Sordell after he secured a season-long loan to Charlton on Thursday.
