Sean Dyche celebrated three years in charge of Burnley with a 2-1 home victory over Huddersfield as striker Andre Gray took his tally for the season to eight.

The Clarets are aiming for their second promotion out of the division under Dyche, who was appointed on October 30 in 2012, and they maintained their spot in third thanks to the in-form Gray.

Burnley's record signing converted a first-half spot-kick and found the net again before the interval to give Dyche's side their fourth win in five, with Michael Duff's own goal providing the Terriers with an 88th-minute consolation.

The Clarets remain behind second-placed Hull on goal difference, and the pair closed the gap on leaders Brighton to two points after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Reading.

Jamie Murphy's goal six minutes into the second half looked to have given the Seagulls their ninth one-goal win of the league season but Matej Vydra levelled for the Royals with 12 minutes to spare.

Steve Bruce's Hull completed an unbeaten October with a 2-0 success over MK Dons, goals from Ahmed Elmohamady and Mohamed Diame making it four wins from the Tigers' five Championship fixtures this month.

Four goals in the first 36 minutes helped Fulham sweep aside Bristol City in a 4-1 rout at Ashton Gate.

Mousa Dembele repeated his brace from last weekend and that was added to by further strikes by Ross McCormack and Ryan Tunnicliffe as the Whites followed up their four-goal haul against Reading with another thrashing.

The struggling Robins gave their fans some cheer with a stoppage-time strike from Jonathan Kodjia.

Derby enjoyed a 3-0 win over lowly Rotherham to keep up their momentum in the promotion chase.

Paul Clement's side last tasted defeat in August and they cruised to three points over the Millers thanks to goals from Andreas Weimann, Jacob Butterfield and Richard Keogh.

Middlesbrough followed up their shock Capital One Cup triumph at Old Trafford in midweek with a 3-0 victory over managerless Charlton.

Karel Fraeye was placed in temporary charge of the Addicks following Guy Luzon's axing but was unable to engineer a change in fortunes as David Nugent, Albert Adomah and Daniel Ayala consigned a side currently in the bottom three to another loss.

Wolves won an all-Midlands affair against Birmingham at lunchtime, with a 2-0 victory at St Andrew's earning them bragging rights. Gary Rowett's side were undone thanks to goals in either half from Dave Edwards and Sheyi Ojo.

Sheffield Wednesday, who also caused a League Cup upset this week when they beat Arsenal, recorded another Hillsborough triumph. Fernando Forestieri's vicious hit 22 minutes from time proved to be the difference in 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Elsewhere, it finished 0-0 between Ipswich and Cardiff at Portman Road.
