15 March 2011 14:51
South Yorkshire referee Michael Naylor will referee both Burnley and Coventry for the first time tonight in his first season as a Football League referee. Naylor has been on the Football League list as an assistant referee but was promoted this season and refereed his first game on the second Saturday of the season. That was the League Two clash between Lincoln and Torquay. He's predominantly been used in the bottom two divisions but in January was given his first Championship game when he refereed the 0-0 draw between Crystal Palace and Bristol City.Palace had two players yellow carded in that game, Bristol City had none, and overall he's not often used his cards. He's refereed a total of 18 games in which there have been 40 yellow cards and just the one red card.Of those yellow cards, 18 have gone to home team players and 22 to away team players. The only player he's sent off is Port Vale's Marc Richards in a 2-1 home win against Burton Albion on New Year's Day Bank Holiday. That red card left Richards suspended for the FA Cup tie against Burnley. His last game came a week last Saturday when there were no cards in Peterborough's 3-0 home win against Exeter. The assistant referees are Rob Merchant (Staffordshire) and Andy Newell (Lancashire). The fourth official is Joe Hull (Cheshire).
