Burnley confirmed at Palace

Former Colchester, Ipswich, Derby, Hearts, Southampton and Scotland manager George Burley has this afternoon been appointed as manager of Championship club Crystal Palace. Burley has been out of work since leaving the Scotland job and has been linked with a number of positions during the past few months. He was always one of the front runners for Palace and it seemed it was a straight fight in the end between him and their former striker Dougie Freedman.Palace have confirmed Burley as the new man with Freedman in as his number two and this brings to an end a difficult time for the club when just a couple of weeks ago it looked as though they could face liquidation.A new consortium has now taken over the club and Burley has replaced Paul Hart who came in to replace Neil Warnock last season and was left fighting relegation after the ten point deduction, a fight they won on the last day of the season when they drew at Sheffield Wednesday with Wednesday the one to go down.Palace at this time have given no details regarding the appointment but it is expected that Burley will have signed a two year deal with the South London club.
