Burnley confident of keeping Blake

Despite suggestions this week that Robbie Blake could be looking for a move away from Burnley, the club today have confirmed they are confident of keeping him at Turf Moor beyond the end of his contract. Robbie hasn't been in the side as much as he would have liked in recent weeks and that has prompted him to consider his options. He said this week that the next two weeks would be important in him making a decision. But manager Brian Laws has stressed that he wants Robbie to remain at Burnley and said today: "Robbie is a player I have great admiration for. He has been fantastic for this football club and I want him to stay. That is something we have been talking about over the past few weeks."I fully understand, particularly at his age that he wants to play football, but in the Championship he will have a major say in how we play and be a big influence on and off the park."He will certainly be a big player for us next season, so I am certainly not thinking of letting him go without a fight. We will make him feel wanted and that he is going to get games."Laws confirmed: "Robbie is not a complex guy and it's not about money. He just wants to play and I understand that. The problem is the media all ask questions after relegation, when minds are all over the play. But I am confident we can get him to stay."He has not played as many games as he would have liked in the Premier League, but in this league we are not the best side and more often than not the opposition are going to have more of the ball."That means we have to chase a lot and with the greatest of respect, that's not Robbie's greatest strength."In the Championship we are going to be a strong side and that's the time you need Robbie in the team and I can see him figuring in a lot of games next season."
